Gulf of Tonkin Resolution
The Gulf of Tonkin Resolution was enacted on August 10, 1964, it was a resolution that the United States congress passed on August 7, 1964, in response to the Gulf of Tonkin incident. The Gulf of Tonkin incident was when a USS Maddox, a U.S. destroyer was attacked by three North Vietnamese Navy torpedo boats.
The reason the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution was verified was because it gave the U.S president, Lyndon B. Johnson authorization without a formal approval from the declaration of war congress. So that gave Lyndon B. Johnson the right to use military force on Southes
